Hongatar

Hongatar, the All Mother of Bears, the Emuu of bears.
She's a character in Finnish mythology, something very close to a goddes, something like a goddes of bear hunt. She's the one whom hunters prayed to catch bears, and for her the hunters sacrifised the bear's bones from toes to skull and the brains, blood and if I remember correctly, heart too. The hunters with maybe help of a priest or priestess prosessed to put the skull on the brach of pine, facing north.
I think she's kinda messed up, and so are the other Emuus (like for Emuu of Foxes and Emuu of Snakes) in Finnish mythology. Hongatar lives in the Great Bear asterism and long, long, long time ago she came down and gave birth to the first bear/s. Now she gives birth/creates every bear and literally gives them to live in earth, and in the same time she also allows hunters to kill her children, sacrifice them to her so she gets them back.

In this piece of art Hongatar has decided that the hunters will get the bear, so she can has her child back to her for a little while.
